You Don't Need a Bigger Firm. You Need the Right One.

Los Angeles has no shortage of tax preparers. What it doesn't have enough of is someone who actually picks up the phone, explains what your numbers mean, and is still there in September and October, not just in April.

Most people come to Oak Roots after trying someone else first: a preparer who disappeared after filing, a bookkeeper who fell three months behind, a big-box chain that treated their return like a number on a conveyor belt. Michelle Jaimes built Oak Roots to be the opposite of that experience, bringing 15+ years of corporate-level accounting expertise directly to Los Angeles small business owners, individuals, and families.

Whether you need small business accounting in Los Angeles, tax planning that gets ahead of the deadline instead of scrambling to meet it, or bookkeeping that finally makes sense of a shoebox of receipts, this is what you're actually looking for: someone credentialed enough to represent you in front of the IRS, and personal enough to remember your name when you call.

Why Clients Choose Oak Roots Over the Alternatives

Corporate-Level Expertise, Small Business Pricing

We're bringing 15+ years inside corporate tax accounting experience to everything we do here. You get that same rigor and standard of work, without the corporate price tag or the junior associate handing off your file.

An Enrolled Agent, Not Just a Seasonal Preparer

Enrolled Agent status is a federal credential with unlimited rights to represent you before the IRS, something most local tax shops and seasonal chains simply can't offer. If the IRS ever sends a letter, we can speak to them directly, on your behalf.

Fully Available, All Year-Round

Many Los Angeles tax offices close for the summer or run part-time hours outside of tax season. Oak Roots operates Monday through Friday, twelve months a year, because bookkeeping, payroll, and business decisions don't stop in May.

Plain Language, Not Jargon

Every client leaves a conversation with Oak Roots understanding why, not just what. No confusing forms handed back with a bill attached. With our firm you'll know what's happening with your money and why it matters.

Every season with the wrong tax pro, every quarter of unreconciled books, is another year of surprises, overpayments, and nights spent wondering what you missed. Oak Roots is how you take those decisions back before the next deadline does it for you.

Frequently asked questions

Common Questions

Yes, always. Oak Roots will quote your project after seeing the full scope, either a flat fee or an hourly rate for ongoing accounting, and you'll have that number in writing before any work begins. No surprise invoices, no vague estimates.

An Enrolled Agent is a tax professional licensed by the federal government, specifically to handle tax matters. The credential is earned by passing a three-part IRS examination covering individuals, businesses, and representation, and it has to be maintained with continuing education. Enrolled Agents have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. A CPA is licensed by an individual state and trained more broadly across accounting, auditing and financial reporting, and many also work in tax. Both are credentialed professionals. The practical difference is that an Enrolled Agent's license is federal and focused entirely on tax.

Yes. Enrolled Agents hold unlimited representation rights before the IRS, which means Michelle can speak with the IRS on your behalf, respond to notices, and handle examinations, appeals and collection matters. A preparer without credentials generally cannot do this, even if they prepared the return in question.

Yes, and this is more common than people expect. Michelle will work out which years are actually outstanding, what the IRS already has on record for you, and the order things need to be filed in. Nothing about that conversation is judgmental, and it is confidential.

Yes. Appointments can be held by video or phone, and Michelle works with clients anywhere in the United States. Everything can be handled remotely if that is easier for you.

Yes. Oak Roots is a mobile practice based in El Sereno. Michelle travels to clients across El Sereno, City Terrace, Lincoln Heights, Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, Highland Park, Pasadena and South Pasadena, and works virtually with clients across greater Los Angeles.

Yes, and for most business clients that is the point. Bookkeeping, payroll, sales and use tax and estimated payments all run on their own schedules through the year. Oak Roots is available Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm PST, all twelve months.

It depends on what your return involves, so Oak Roots quotes it after seeing the scope. Work is priced per project as a flat fee, or hourly for ongoing accounting. You will have the number before any work starts.

Yes. Michelle works with clients in English and Spanish, including consultations, document review and correspondence.
